We are now fully into the festive season, or the festive “disease” as I call it. There are a lot of parties, get-togethers, family reunions, food, eating and more eating. This is the season of gluttony in more ways than one can imagine. Family and friends travel great distances to be with the ones they love and haven’t seen for such a long time.
Unfortunately, this “joyous” is not so full of joy for everyone. There are those who are painfully enduring these long days and lonely nights thinking about the loved ones they have lost or are no longer with. The elderly are especially hard hit this time of year. When it is day they wish for the night, and when it is night they wish for the morning. They sink deep into depression and self-pity. They believe that no one cares about them, and that they don’t matter.
My friend, if you know anyone, friend or family member who is alone, or will be alone this holiday season, especially on Christmas or New Years’ day, take some time out of your celebration and visit them, sit them with them, let them know that you love and that they matter.
As many people sink further into depression and loneliness they may even begin to entertain thoughts of suicide, thinking they might be doing everyone a big favor if they were no longer here. They may even believe they are a burden to their family, and would be better off dead.
But they must keep this mind: God said He will never leave us nor forsake us, and that if we just call upon Him, He will answer us and show us great and mighty things that we do not know.
DON’T LET YOUR FRIENDS OR LOVED ONES BE ALONE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. VISIT THEM-SPEND TIME WITH THEM!
If you find yourself alone during this season, get out of the house, go to the mall or to a movie. Spoil yourself!
YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN! GOD LOVES YOU!
